Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills

Have you ever been to see Mt. Rushmore? We traveled through South Dakota and got to see the images of four American presidents carved in stone at Mr. Rushmore. We had a lot of fun first seeing the Badlands.  The Badlands are unusual rock formations. The colors are very pretty, especially at sunset.

In the Black Hills, in the west part of South Dakota, there were lots of small mountains, pine trees, little streams, and even some buffalo! Jerry took this photo from the car. He wanted to get out of the car and take a closer picture, and maybe even pet the buffalo, but Ben didn't think that was such a good idea.

We loved hiking in the Black Hills. We hoped to see some other bears, but we didn't. We did see a Norwegian Stave church. It was made all of wood and had neat carvings. Ben thinks that there must have been lots of Norwegian settlers in the Midwest. Jerry would like to visit Norway one day. He thinks it would be fun to meet a Norwegian bear.
