Isn't this sign neat? It's the Ojibwe word for bear.
Our next hike was in Tettegouche State Park to see the High Falls.

Some of the hiking trails were beary good and had wooden steps; this sure made hiking easy.
Other parts of the trail were MUCH more difficult. "It sur iz hard for a littul bear to hike some of theeze trails." said Ben.
Along the way we saw beautiful little flowers...
...and bright red beary plants.
We finally arrived at the High Falls. Some people were even swimming in the water, but Jerry and Ben didn't bring their swimming trunks, so they just enjoyed looking at the falls.
After a great hike, we needed some lunch, so we stopped the famous Naniboujou Lodge restaurant. The beary beautiful ceiling and interior was painted by French artist Antoine Goufee in 1929. Native American Cree Indian designs cover the walls and the twenty-foot-high domed ceiling that resembling the shape of a canoe.
The stone fireplace was amazing! "We eat a beary licious walleye, thatz a feesh, sanweech!" said Jerry, "It was sooo gud!"

Oh wow!! That restaurant ceiling is AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great hike!! Those orange flowers are called Orange Hawkweed and the red-berried thing is called Bunchberry - we get them here too! They have lovely white flowers that look like a mini-Dogwood. Hmmm... I sound like a naturalist tour guide... It sounds like Ben needs a bit more honey to get stronger for hikes!

@ Sandy, Thanks Sandy! We didn't know what those plants were called. Jerry wanted to taste one of the red berries, but Ben said "NO"--probably best not to do that.
